Unit1 Lifestyles Warm-up
Objectives:
To encourage students to talk about other people’s lifestyles and their own dream life.
To make students listen to some materials and get listening strategy.
To improve students’ cooperative awareness.
Important points
To get students familiar with the sentence patter: I think a …’s life is …, but maybe it’s … sometimes.
To make students understand the listening materials thoroughly.
Difficult point
Some students may have difficulties in expressing themselves in English because they are too shy to speak English.

Process
Step 1
Introduce the tasks of unit 1 and the main content of this lesson, for the purpose of getting students prepared.
Step2
Show some pictures on PPT and ask students “what do you think of their lifes ?” Encourage students to use the key words in exercise 1 to express their opinions. By the same time, make sure they know the
usage of sentences pattern: “I think a …’s life is …, but maybe it’s …
sometimes.”

Step 3
Invite some students to share their opinions.
Example
I think a shepherd’s life is peaceful and relaxing-but maybe it's boring sometimes.
Possible answers
Shepherd’s life: lazy/free/dangerous
Football player’s life:interesting/exciting/stressful
Business manager’s life: busy/exciting/boring
Student’s ife: interesting/active/stressful Step 4
Lead students to think of their own lifes by asking: “we have talked much about other people’s lifes. How about yourselves? What do you think of being students? What kind of l ife style do you have?

Teacher should offer some positive answers such as: interesting, colorful, vital, and active. Teacher should make students aware of the good sides of being students and make them cherish their school life more.

Listen to the material and guess who is speaking.

Step 6
Ask two volunteer to read the two small passages in exercise 3. The whole class is supposed to be formed into groups of two and then choose one passage to make conversations.

Encourages students to imagine their dream lifes and write down 5
