Everyone needs friends. We all like to feel close to someone. It is nice to have a friend to talk, laugh and do things with. Sure, there are times when we need to be alone. We don’t always want people around. But we would feel lonely if we never had a friend.
No two people are the same. Sometimes friends don’t get along well. That doesn’t mean they no longer like each other. Most of the time they will go on being friends. Sometimes friends move away. Then we feel very sad. We miss them very much. But we can call them and write to them. Maybe we would never see them again. And we can make new friends. It is surprising to find out how much we like new people when we get to know them. Families sometimes name their children after a close friend. Many places are named after men and women, if they are friendly to people in a town. Some libraries are named in this way. So are some schools. We think of these people when we go to these places.
There is more good news for people, if they have friends. These people live longer than those people who don’t have friends. Why? It could be that they are happier. Being happy helps you stay well. Or it could be just knowing that someone cares. If someone cares about you, you take better care of yourself.

Look at the light and beautiful snowflakes (雪花) falling. Ever wanted to hold them in your hands? They are always lost when they meet your hands. Well, this isn’t just a problem for you. It was a problem for Wilson Bentley, too. In the 1870s, Wilson Bentley was just a teenager. His family lived in a small town in northeast America . Winters there were long and hard. Bentley’s mother was once a school teacher. She taught him at home. Bentley didn’t go to school until he was 14. He was a quiet boy, and loved reading his mother’s books.
But it was his mother’s microscope (显微镜) that interested him. When the other boys were playing with balls, little Bentley was studying things like drops of water, flowers and snowflakes. Bentley loved watching snowflakes. For the next two years, young Bentley spent many winter days in a cold room watching these ice crystals (晶体) under his microscope.
The boy thought they were so beautiful that he started to draw pictures of them. But there were so many snowflakes that he couldn’t draw them all.
How could he keep their beauty forever? Bentley thought of buying a camera.
The boy and his mother asked his father to buy one. But, his father didn’t agree. He thought the whole thing was a bad idea. He thought the only thing a farmer should do was farming.
But finally Bentley did get a camera. For more than a year he tried to take pictures of snowflakes. On January 15, 1885, during a snowstorm, Bentley took the first ever photo of an ice crystal with his camera. “It was the greatest moment of my life,” Bentley said later.

If I had another chance, I’d most surely still become a teacher. Being a teacher has helped me to be more patient (耐心的), kind and understanding. Being a teacher has improved my ability to learn and grow, to carry on lifelong learning, and to keep up with the many changes taking place in curriculum (课程), education, and technology.
It is important to enter teaching for the right reasons. If you are becoming a teacher to have June, July and August off, think again. Most summers are filled with courses, in-service training, writing the curriculum, and more.
If you are becoming a teacher because you love learning and helping others learn, because you want to make a difference in the life of the young, because you’re willing to work hard and against many difficulties to help students learn, then teaching probably is for you.
Teaching isn’t always fun. If you just want to do the fun things, you may try being a volunteer (志愿者). Teaching is doing the hard things, as well as the fun things. But seeing the joy on the face of a child who has succeeded in something he tried to finish is a huge reward.
If you always want to win recognition (认可), don’t become a teacher. Sometimes you never hear “thank you”, but know you have done a great job anyway. You might teach for 30 years and never get much recognition, but you will know in your heart that your work has mattered, and that because of you, many children will have a bright future.
72. What might be the best title for the passage?
A. Teaching is hard but fun
B. The right choice to be a teacher
C. The right reasons for being a teacher
D. Teaching is a science as well as an art
73. You shouldn’t become a teacher, if you want to ______.
A. influence the life of the young

A. no one knows you even if you have taught for 30 years
B. you will receive no thanks after teaching for many years
C. being a teacher is a great job that needs no thanks
D. though you receive no thanks, your teaching is important
75. Which of the following is one of the reasons why the writer wants to become a teacher again?
A. He can keep up with the times.

We recently had a discussion on what sort of lifestyle we would like to have in the future.
Some classmates think it will be necessary to work hard to make as much money as possible. In their opinion, their love to family should be shown by money. They think that the more money the family get, the happier they are. And they also think that having entertainment is a waste of money and time.
However, others have different ideas. They also agree that working hard is important, but they think that health is more important than money. They don’t want to be workaholics. They want to spend as much time as possible relaxing with their families. And this is the lifestyle I’d like to have.
