Lesson 3 Virtual Reality
Teaching aims:
Practise using first and second conditions
Discuss whether websites are real
Teaching difficulties:
Students may have difficulty understanding conditional sentences.
StepⅠBefore reading
1. Ask students to look back at Lesson 1 and find the definition of virtual reality (E 4, definition
2. Discuss which of these uses for virtual reality are possible:
*virtual reality holidays
*learning to fly using virtual reality technology
*virtual reality computer games
*visiting virtual museums on the Internet
You have two choices which one do you prefer? Why?
1). A. You can go to California and attend Stanford – a world famous university this fall.
B. You can take courses on line of Stanford at home and get a degree.
2). A. You make a trip to Hong Kong with your family this weekend
B. You can use computer to travel around Hang Kong, that is to say, virtual travel
3. Tell students some information about science museum.

Ask students to read through the dialogue. Remind them that the important words are stressed in each sentence.
Answer the questions on P 13.

Ask the students to say out their opinion about the virtual university.

Analyze some sentences in the text.
Read the sentences that are used to talk about.
Talk about the unlikely situations in the future and possible situations in the future
Revise the zero conditional.
Ask students to read Grammar Summary 2.
Ask students to look back at the conditional sentences in the dialogue and read them aloud.

Plans for the future
Something that isn’t possible now
1. If we had virtual reality holidays, we wouldn’t have any problems with the weather.
2. If they invented virtual reality holidays, I’d go on an around –the– world tour.
Guide the students to analysis these sentences’ character and draw a conclusion: Something that isn’t possible now.
虚拟语气:与现在的事实相反,从句动词用过去时,主句用would/should/could/might +动词原形。
Test your ability. Do the exercise 8 and 9.

Write about your ideal future. Think about your home, job, partner, family, etc. Write conditional sentences to explain why you would like this kind of life.
